COUNTERFEITED GOODS SEIZED IN TORREVIEJA
The councillor for public safety in Torrevieja, Eduardo Gil Rebollo, has reported that a joint operation between the local police and Guardia Civil has resulted in the seizure of "hundreds of counterfeit products" during the weekend operation.
Eleven members of the Guardia Civil and seven local police officers, some of whom were operating in plain clothes, patrolled the streets of the city to catch out the criminal traders, resulting in a haul that included handbags, sunglasses, polo-shirts, belts and wallets.
The joint operation is set to continue and will also take in neighbouring markets where 191 pairs of fake Levi Strauss jeans were found on one stall alone.
KNIFEMAN SOUGHT IN PILAR
The Guardia Civil has launched a hunt for 51 year old man accused of assaulting his former partner with a knife, causing minor injuries to the left buttock, both hands and right knee, in a street in the town of Pilar de la Horadada.
The 35 year old woman, of Moroccan origin, was taken to hospital in Torrevieja, where she was discharged once her injuries had been attended to.
COUPLE GASSED IN GUARDAMAR HOME
A couple, aged 56 and 59, were found gassed in their home in Guardamar, after a emergency services were alerted to a large amount of smoke emanating from their home.
Upon breaking into the villa located on Calle Las Viñas, the Guardia Civil and ambulance crew found a mean lay unconscious on the sofa and a woman in the same state in the bathroom.
They were taken to Torrevieja hospital, where the man remains in intensive care, which investigators found that the cause of their condition was due to smoke inhalation from a poorly ventilated room in which a wood stove had been burning.
HOMELESS HELPED THROUGH COLD SNAP
The Cruz Roja has treated 321 people in the Region of Valencia since the beginning of the Siberian cold snap last Thursday night, according to a humanitarian organization.
The "Café solidario" initiative has been reinforced by the Red Cross to support the homeless and those vulnerable to suffer from the cold snap in fourteen municipalities of the Valencian Community.
Faced with falling temperatures, the Cruz Roja recommends avoiding outdoor activities, being careful with gas stoves and firewood, and to avoid overloading the power network with electric heaters.
ROJALES GETS HEALTHY
Councillor Lourdes López of Rojales town hall has announced a series of free workshops to promote healthy eating for the residents of the town.
Running every Friday evening until June, the workshops aim to show how a healthy and balanced lifestyle can be both cheap and nutritious and are aimed at encouraging a healthy diet across all generations, with an added value of teaching good manners and overall self improvement.
