POLICE TO INCREASE PATROLS IN TORREVIEJA

A cooperation agreement has been reached between the Guardia Civil and local police of Torrevieja that will see combined and coordinated patrols of the urbanisations surrounding the city, some of which will also offer air support.

The current strategy of check point controls will also be increased, in an attempt to carry on the success story that has already lead to the arrests of countless people who have fallen into the trap of the controls.

The councillor for safety and security in the city, Eduardo Gil Rebollo, made the announcement this week that had come about by negotiations between the mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, the newly appointed deputy Mayor of Alicante, Alberto Martínez and the provincial chief of police, Fabián Navarro.

CAM BANK HEADS TO BE CHARGED

The Bank of Spain has opened disciplinary proceedings against the former senior management of CAM bank for alleged irregularities during their tenure.

Banking sources state that the case could affect more than 40 people, which will investigate whether they committed any kind of negligence or irregularity during the time they were running the Alicante based Costa Blanca banking chain.

KNIFE ATTACKER ARRESTED

The Guardia Civil have arrested the former partner of a woman who alleged that he had attacked her with a knife in Pilar de la Horadada on Monday, after they found him hiding in a house in San Javier.

The 51 year old is accused of stabbing the 35 year old Moroccan woman, causing injuries to her hands, left buttock and right knee. The detainee has no previous records of activity of either a criminal or violent nature.

ALCOHOL ADVICE FOR ROJALES TEENS

The Youth Council of the Municipality of Rojales has launched the campaign entitled "Let's talk about alcohol", with the aim of raising awareness with school children of health related matters connected with drinking and alcohol abuse.

Various leaflets and talks have been arranged with the hope of discouraging drinking amongst teens, which also often leads to anti-social and criminal behaviour as well as causing long term health risks.

FURNITURE STORE STAFF SHOCKED BY CRASH

Staff in a furniture store in San Blas in Alicante had a shock this week when a motorbike crashed through one of the large glass windows of the shop front.

There were no customers in the shop at the time, but one member of staff reports hearing a “deafening noise”, before seeing the female rider stand up, having apparently losing control of her motorbike.
